It's a grape that few have heard of and fewer understand.
It's a grape that begets a wine few have tasted and even fewer claim as their favorite. That grape is Norton, its past rooted deep in the soil of Richmond, its future cradled in the hands of Chrysalis Vineyards owner Jenni McCloud and a few others in the state. The wine from this one truly American wine-making grape can be a turnoff or an experience of palatable pleasure, one that Dr. Daniel Norton probably didn't envision when he created it in the 1820s in his Richmond garden.
