FRANCE: Carrefour to add Bordeaux wine production plant

(Just-Drinks) - French retailer Carrefour is set to up its wine production footprint in the Bordeaux region of the country.

The company said late last week that it will build the facility, via its trader Johanes Boubée, in Beychac-et-Caillau. Bordeaux provides around a quarter of Carrefour's grape supplies.

The plant, which is scheduled to enter service in the middle of next year, will have a production capacity of around 45m litres and will process both bottled and bag-in-box wines. It is expected to create between 35 and 40 jobs.

The new facility forms part of a strategy to increase output, providing scope to tap export markets in Brazil where Carrefour is present and looking to grow.

Johanes Boubée already operates three bottling plants, in Lille, Nîmes and Bayeux.
