Arkansas plans to sell beer and wine at football games
Feb 13, 2014 6( NBCSports) - The last couple of seasons of Arkansas football may have driven some fans to drinking away their sorrows.* Perhaps it only makes sense the Razorbacks may soon offer fans a way to start commiserating over a cold one right from their seat in Razorback Stadium.
According to Bob Holt of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Arkansas is just hoping to get state approval for a licence to sell alcohol to fans this fall.
According to SEC policy, Arkansas would only be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages to fans sitting in premium seats, so that rules out the every day fan sitting in the seats down below from being able to buy a beer.
There is a financial incentive to selling alcohol of course, but the majority of schools are reluctant to enter that territory. West Virginia made over $500,000 on beer sales in 2011, which has made others around the Big 12 take a look at the possibility of expanding alcoholic sales beyond the premium seats. The only school in the state of Texas serving alcohol to fans is Houston, but with schools always on the lookout for ways to make an extra buck, the idea may be catching on.
