US: Convention brings wine industry to Sacramento
Jan 28, 2014 6(KCRA) —Thousands of people from the wine industry are in Sacramento for the 19th annual Wine and Grape Symposium.
The event is a significant money maker for Sacramento, as 14,000 people are expected to be in the city for the three day event.
And nearly every hotel in downtown Sacramento is booked.
At the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, officials said rooms sold out last year within 15 minutes of making them available for vintners, growers and researchers.
Brenda Kirian with the Hyatt downtown said the wine symposium is the second biggest money maker next to New Year's Eve.
Downtown chefs were prepping Tuesday to serve up some high-end meals to those in the wine industry, which meant buying some high-end wine of their own.
The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau said 16 hotels and downtown restaurants will make more than $100,000 for each night the convention takes place.
