Wine press: Best sports wines - which wines go best with each sport and their fans
Oct 16, 2013 6(MassLive) - When most people think about wine and sports, champagne-doused celebrations are often the first and only things that come to mind.
But what about wine and sports fans? What wines go best with certain sports?
Think wine and sports don't go together?
Think again.
If wine has nothing to do with sports, how come there's a Red Sox wine for sale in stores just in time for the postseason? And it's not the first time either, I might add. Remember Vintage Papi? (And speaking of vintage Papi, Ortiz's eighth-inning Grand Slam in Game 2 on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers will go down as one of the most amazing moments in Red Sox lore - and that's saying a lot!)
How come former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe owns a winery - along numerous other famous athletes, including golfer Ernie Els and former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka?
So when I saw a newspaper article recently about cyclists visiting wineries in the Alsace region, I started thinking: what wines go great with each sport? Or more specifically, which wines go best with watching certain sports?
How come one wine doesn't go with every sport, you might ask? You clearly don't know much about sports fans, my friend.
