(ANSA) - Production of Italian wine has increased by 7% this year compared with 2012, although it remains a bit weaker than the five-year average, producers announced Tuesday.

Quality is good on average across the 45 million hectoliters of wine produced in Italy, said organizations representing wine producers.

Production of good quality of white wine has particularly increased, with reds likely to meet last year's levels of production and quality, said the organizations.

This year's grape harvest has been delayed by about 15 days compared with last year, but still remains within normal ranges, they added.

It's also expected that Spain will report a larger harvest this year compared with 2012, while France is facing a decrease of as much as six million hectoliters.
