US: Virginia Ranked Number One For Wine Friendly Laws
Aug 19, 2013 6(WHSV) - Virginia receives an a plus for wine consumer friendly laws. The American Wine Consumer Coalition ranks the Commonwealth as number one, along with six other states.
The report looks at consumers access to wine laws. In Virginia, liquor, wine and grocery stores sell wine. Consumers can have wine shipped from wineries and wine retailers. Also, the government doesn't take part in the retail sale of wine, and allows sale of wine on Sundays.
Bluestone winemaker Lee Hartman says fewer restrictions help the business grow.
" Most of the sales for us don't go through other retailers so it's not all restaurants and other wine shops. Most of it it's sold right here in our tasting room so if you take out one of every seven days, it would have a very large impact," says Hartman.
