(Decanter) - The Fladgate Partnership, the owner of Taylor's Port, has continued the trend of consolidation in the industry by buying tawny specialist Wiese & Krohn.

The deal includes the company’s brand, stocks and vineyard holdings, including what Fladgate described as ‘exceptional’ stocks of aged tawnies and colheitas dating back to 1863.

Also included is the Grade A-classified vineyard Quinta do Retiro Novo in the Rio Torto valley.

Previously owned and run by the Falcão Carneiro family, Wiese & Krohn has an estimated 5m litres of Port held in cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and in the Douro.

‘The recent growth and interest in aged tawnies worldwide has fuelled our interest to expand our stock and introduce a range of exceptional colheitas to our portfolio for the first time,’ said Adrian Bridge, Fladgate CEO.

Wiese & Krohn is widely recognised for its expertise in this field… This move is a further step in the consolidation of the Port industry, in which our group has taken a leading role.’
