Auction Buyers Snap Up Wine From The 'Best Restaurant In The World'

(Forbes) - Fans of the feted Catalan restaurant elBulli that shut in 2011 after 50 years in business and five years as the best restaurant in the world, according to Restaurant Magazine, had their last chance to take home a portion of the restaurant’s pretty extraordinary wine cellar at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on Friday.

The top lot of over 600 was four bottles of Romanée-Conti 2004, which were signed by elBulli’s award-winning chef Ferran Adrià and director Juli Soler, and sold for $52,062 to an Asian buyer. Other top lots included four magnums of Vega Sicilia Unico from 1991, which sold for $13, 475 to a Latin American buyer, and three bottles of Montrachet 1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti that sold to an Asian buyer for $12,250.
