California: $30 million wine country-themed resort in Lodi's future?

(Recordnet) - As San Joaquin County revises its General Plan, Diede Construction Inc. will seek zoning to allow construction of a $30 million wine country-themed resort complex at Highway 99 and Armstrong Road south of Lodi.

Dubbed AVA - named for the American viticultural area, the formal name for a recognized wine region or appellation - the resort would include a 50-room boutique hotel, spa and event center, but it would also provide lease space for 10 boutique winery tasting rooms, a white-tablecloth restaurant, a smaller cafe, two retail shops and a fruit stand.

The aim is to create an upscale resort, with suites going for $250 to $450 a night, that builds on the boutique winery and tourism boom seen in the Lodi area over the past dozen years, Diede Senior Vice President John Anderson said.
