‘American Wine,’ a story of great growth

(WashingtonPost) - At the turn of the millennium, there were approximately 2,000 wineries in the United States. Today, there are close to 8,000. Much of the growth has come in “the other 47” states outside the traditional wine country of California, Oregon and Washington. Today’s wine country is Loudoun County, Charlottesville, New York’s Finger Lakes and Long Island, or Michigan’s Old Mission Peninsula. Wine of some sort is produced in all 50 states.
