Uncorkings: U.S. Tops World in Consumption of Wines over $10.

(WineMag) - A comprehensive global study by International Wine and Spirit Research (IWSR), commissioned by VinExpo reports that the United States is the largest consuming country of wines that retail for more than $10 per bottle. We’re also the number one country in wine consumption by volume and value. Other highlights from the report include:
• U.S. consumption of sparkling wines is growing twice as fast as that of still wines
• The U.S. is the largest market in the world for Tequila
• Worldwide, wine consumption is expected to grow by up to 5.3% annually by 2013
• Red wine accounted for 54.7% of still wines consumed in 2011
• France is the world’s leading exporter of wine (by value)
• International spirits revenues were up 43% from 2007–2011
