(PolHudson.Lohudblogs) - The state is receiving a $1 million federal grant for the research and development of the crops used for New York’s wines and alcohol, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today.
Cuomo has pushed for the growth of New York’s wine and beer industry, and he held a summit on the issue in October. About $200,000 of the federal grant will go to promotional efforts.
“As part of being an entrepreneurial government, New York is partnering with the private sector to establish our state as a leader in the production of a wide array of goods, from Greek yogurt to craft beer,” Cuomo said in a statement.
Most of the money is going to regional Cornell Cooperative Extensions
