Objections to Scottish minimum pricing now Europe-wide

(Decanter) - Spain, Italy, Portugal and France have joined Bulgaria in formally objecting to the Scottish government's legislation introducing minimum unit pricing on alcohol. Earlier this month Bulgaria objected to the European Commission about the plans for a minimum price of £0.50 per unit of alcohol, which were approved by the Scottish parliament in April this year.
Now the four other countries, and the European Commission, have lodged ‘detailed formal opinions’, a move which ensures that the European Commission complaints process, due to end today, is now extended until the end of the year.
