US confirms 198th AVA

(TheDrinksBusiness) - The US Treasury Department has approved American Viticultural Area (AVA) status for the Middleburg Virginia region. Located 50 miles west of Washington DC, the 190-square mile AVA surrounds the town of Middleburg and is bordered by the Potomac River to the north, with mountains to its east, south and west. Middleburg Virginia AVA currently contains 229 acres of commercial vineyards, including 14 wineries and 10 vineyards. The current list of wineries is as follows: Barrel Oak Winery, Boxwood Estate Winery, Chateau O’Brien at Northpoint, Doukenie Winery, Piedmont Vineyards and Winery, Swedenburg Estate Winery, Village Winery, Corcoran Vineyards, Hiddencroft Vineyards, Louduon Valley Vineyards, Naked Mountain Vineyard, Sunset Hills Vineyard, Three Fox Vineyards, Vintage Ridge Vineyard.
