(TheProvince) - The NDP wants to give the province's craft distillers the same boost as its winemakers.
"The success of the wine industry is a source of economic and cultural pride for British Columbians," NDP Leader Adrian Dix said Wednesday.
"We have an opportunity to do something similar with respect to spirits and artisan distilleries in B.C."
As it stands, craft distillers - defined by the NDP as those using at least 50-per-cent B.C. products in their spirits - have to put nearly 170-per-cent markups on their bottles going to the province's Liquor Distribution Board. And they have to do so whether their bottles are sold in LDB stores or out of their own stores or distilleries, directly to customers.
