(CapitalPress) - The Idaho Wine Commission has approved a fiscal year 2013 budget that is substantially more than its current budget and puts an increased emphasis on marketing Idaho's fast-growing wine industry.
The new budget will be $410,000, up from $273,000 in fiscal 2012, which ends June 30. The increase is due to a specialty crop grant, the use of surplus funds and significantly increased state wine tax revenue.
The commission will spend significantly more money in fiscal 2013 on advertising and marketing. The IWC will spend $57,900 under that item, more than double what was spent this year.
IWC board member Gregg Alger said one of the commission's main goals is to expose Idaho wines to new customers around the region, particularly to more Idahoans.
