US: Popularity causes a backlash against wine-based tourism

(StatesmanJournal) - Oregon’s wine industry isn’t just about wine.
Wineries have become places to sample food, listen to music, socialize with friends and host weddings. Crowds flocking to local wineries during Memorial Day weekend show how well tourism pairs with selling wine.
“The setting is really the draw,” said Jenn Drill, event manager at Orchard Heights in the Eola Hills west of Salem, during the winery’s Memorial Day brunch Saturday. “Some wineries can be stuffy. When wineries do stuff like this, it shows they can be fun.”
