(ABC) - The Western Australian wine industry says south-west growers will get higher prices for produce as oversupply problems improve.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has recorded the first drop in wine consumption in five years, down 0.8 of 1 per cent last financial year.
Wines of Western Australia general manager, Aymee Mastaglia, says south-west producers are working to address oversupply problems that have plagued the industry in recent years.
"Last vintage we really saw grape contracts really dry up, so there are more buyers out there for the supply that's there at the moment, which is a really good sign that demand and supply are starting to become a little bit more level again," she said.
