(WSJ) - A Manhattan federal court judge denied bail for a California rare-wine dealer accused of trying to sell more than $1 million worth of counterfeit bottles at auction houses in New York City and London.
Rudy Kurniawan, believed to be 35 years old, was ordered to remain in custody by U.S. District Court Judge Denise Cote on Friday.
Kurniawan, who once boasted of having one of the most extensive personal wine collections in the world, was arrested by FBI agents on Thursday at his home near Los Angeles on five charges of wire and mail fraud related to attempts to sell counterfeit wines and obtaining loans fraudulently, according to the criminal complaint.
