(Chron) - One of the highlights of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo takes place Saturday night, and it could only be happening in Houston. It’s a wine auction. Only in H-Town, home to the biggest, best-attended rodeo on the planet by far, could bucking broncos and bottles of fine wine co-exist so comfortably.
Marchesi Piero Antinori has no idea what he’s about to experience. The patriarch of the oldest wine family I’m aware of – 26 generations, dating from the 14th century – will be a guest of honor at Reliant Center when a bottle of his 2007 Guada al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore from Tuscany, the rodeo’s 2012 Grand Champion wine, figures to be auctioned for a jaw-dropping sum.
