UK: Medical bosses back booze ads

6
(Derbyshiretimes) - Medical chiefs have backed new adverts warning of the serious health implications of drinking slightly over recommended limits. The Department of Health adverts reiterate the stark message that drinking too much booze leads to a greater risk of developing serious illnesses including heart disease, stroke and cancer. Regularly drinking two large glasses of wine or two strong pints of beer trebles the risk of developing mouth cancer, the adverts warn. Steve Pintus, associate director for public health at NHS Derbyshire County, said: “Most people think it’s just binge-drinkers or the young who drink more than they should. “But in fact drinking more than the recommended limit is a habit we can all fall into – and I’m sure there are many of us who enjoy regular drinking with food or at the end of the day to unwind.
