Czech wine tax wins undiluted condemnations

(Ceskapozice) - Czech Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek’s plans to reintroduce excise duties on wine sales have met a rebuff from his own center-right TOP 09 and other parties in parliament.
TOP 09 chairman Karel Schwarzenberg, the foreign minister, has come out against the party number two’s cash-raising idea of a Kč 10 per liter tax being introduced at the start of next year. “In times of need, you have to dig a bit everywhere. Even so, as a big drinker of wine I would instinctively be 100 percent against this,” he told public broadcaster Czech Television (
