(Harpers) - Own-label wine brands have broken through the £1 billion sales barrier for the first time.
A sales increase of 12% in the year to December 24 took sales of own-labels to £1.059 million, according to Nielsen off-trade data. Volumes rose 5% to 20.1 million cases.
The figures do not take account of exclusive-label merchant brands like Mondelli at Sainsbury's or Tesco's Ogio and Dino, all of which have also recorded big increases.
Nielsen analyst Stewart Blunt said: "Own-labels have benefited from a revamp by some of the retailers.
