(Wines&Vines) - Wine country along the West Coast is defined by mountains and rivers: The ranges that create the arid interiors of British Columbia and Washington state, and the rivers that name and give life to the Okanagan, Columbia and Willamette valleys are part of local landscape and language. By naming a place, some poets say, we show it respect. But even given the distinction of landscape names—from Kelowna to Klamath Falls, Walla Walla to Dismal Nitch—signage isn’t always as common. And this can prevent us from knowing what to call the place we’re in, or where we might find the place we want to be.
