US: Water Waivers for Napa/Sonoma Vineyards

6
(Wines&Vines) - If there’s one thing most growers don’t want, it’s more regulations and paperwork, but those in Napa and Sonoma valleys will have one more to deal with: A regulation requiring a discharge permit that is intended to limit sediment in Napa River and Sonoma Creek. The good news is that many smaller vineyards won’t have to do anything, except possibly file a letter verifying that they are not required to apply. Vineyards won’t have to file anything if they’re on a parcel of 40 or fewer acres (20 acres if the average slope is 5% or greater), unless they pose a significant water quality threat.
