US: Amendment to privatization bill would allow beer distributors to sell wine

(Pennlive) - The House Liquor Control Committee is expected to vote on a controversial bill Tuesday that would get Pennsylvania out of the business of selling booze. However, at least one proposed amendment to the bill would change the direction of what House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, intended to do when he drafted the legislation. His bill calls for auctioning off more than 1,250 retail liquor licenses. Under the amendment, enhanced distributor licenses would be offered, allowing beer distributors to sell wine. In addition, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board stores would continue to operate and not be sold.
