US: Cabernet Sauvignon most popular varietal among online wine shoppers

(AFP) - According to the largest online wine retailer in the US, Carbernet Sauvignon was the most popular varietal of wine in 2011, followed by Pinot Noir.In their annual Top 100 Wines of 2011, Wine.com found that of the top selling wines in their online cellar, 32 of the 100 bottles were Cabs followed by Pinot Noirs, which came in at eight.
Overall, red was the most popular wine of choice, accounting for 80 percent of top 100 list. Only 14 whites made the cut.
Meanwhile, American wine buyers stayed close to home this year, as the most popular wine region represented on the list was Napa Valley, with 23 Californian labels among the most sought-after wines.
