(WestAustralian) - Vasse Felix chief winemaker Virginia Willcock has urged people to remember Margaret River is open for business despite the fires.
The stellar wine producer took out the prize for best white at the Margaret River wine show last Thursday - the worst day of the bushfires - and said the town was starting to move on.
WA's best wine producers gathered at Saracen Estate to celebrate the wine industry as less than 20km away the worst bushfire WA's wine region has experienced for 50 years was raging.
Ms Willcock said anxiety tinged the evening as winemakers, some of whom had been evacuated from their homes, tried to distract themselves from the disaster unfolding outside.
