Daily glass of wine can reduce risk of osteoporosis

(NetDoctor) - A glass of wine a day can help strengthen bones and reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis, according to new research. Researchers from the University of East Anglia and Kings College London conducted a study of over 1,000 pairs of female twins to discover more about the relationship between diet and bone density. The scientists found that those who regularly enjoyed moderate amounts of wine had a higher bone density and were therefore less likely to suffer from brittle bones and develop osteoporosis. The report said: 'Moderate intakes of alcohol from wine were associated with a higher bone mineral density and the consumption of a traditional 20th-century English diet was linked with a lower bone density.'
