US: An early look at harvest 2011

(Insidescoopsf) - Now is the time of year when proclamations appear in inboxes about the ongoing California wine harvest, and before long we’ll be flooded with a lot of official numbers on that topic.
None of this goes to quality, though. And yet quality is what we’re most concerned with. So let’s take a very early look at harvest 2011. I’ll dive in with more detail next week.
Anyone who’s been in northern California this year doesn’t need to be reminded how unusual a summer it has been. As in: the summer that wasn’t. What that meant for wine grapes was a typically late start, delayed by rain and cool weather throughout the spring. And then the cold stayed, and stayed, and stayed.
