NZ: New bill a 'slap in the face' for wine

"A slap in the face for struggling wine businesses" is New Zealand Winegrowers chief executive officer Philip Gregan's response to the Alcohol Reform Bill select committee report released last week.
Few suggestions in the New Zealand Winegrowers submission to the select committee were taken up, Mr Gregan said.
The committee ignored Winegrowers' suggestion that a special class of off-licence be created for winery cellar doors, recognising their low risk and important role in regional tourism. This would have reduced the cost burden on small wineries selling on average just one case of wine per day through the cellar door while maintaining regulatory oversight, Mr Gregan said.
