A US study released by Gallup in July 2011 has highlighted that consumers' preference for beer is in decline, with wine having increased in popularity, particularly among millennials. For the country's brewers, the question is how to re-engage beer with younger consumers.
In the Gallup survey of 1,016 US adults, 666 stated that they consume alcohol, with 35% drinking wine the most often, compared to 36% who favor beer and 23% who prefer liquor. Beer consumption has suffered in the US; the economy has significantly affected male blue-collar workers, for example, which has impacted upon the volume sales of Bud and Bud Light.
