The Bulgarian wine industry is enjoying an upswing with domestic sales from January to March 2011 exceeding 25.8 million litres, 67 per cent more than the same period last year, the wine agency said, cited by Investor.bg. For the first quarter of last year, domestic sales accounted for about 15.4 million litres. The reason for the resurgence, according to the report, is attributed to local producers' intensive marketing in recent years. Significant investments were made in selecting new varieties. These have improved the product portfolio of wineries and have subsequently improved their competitiveness on the market, the report said.
