Argentina has won the right to label its wines La Rioja following a 12 year diplomatic and legal battle with the Spanish wine-producing region of the same name. Records show that grapes in the northern Spanish region of La Rioja, renowned for its red wines, date back to at least the 9th century and that local wines were recognised by the King of Navarre and Aragon in 1102.
