Northern European wine producers subject to this year's "exceptionally unfavourable" weather conditions will be allowed to use enrichment aids to raise alcoholic volumes in their wines by up to 0.5%, agreed the EU's management committee this week. On Tuesday, the Committee voted in favour of a request by 11 member states to allow producers to increase enrichment limits (alcoholic strength) on wine made with grapes harvested this year - subjected to heavy rain and limited sunshine at the end of the growing season
