Hundreds of jobs in the wine bottling sector are at risk because of poor recovery rates of recycled glass, the packaging industry has warned. The way local councils collect household waste - particularly the ''co-mingling'' of glass with other packaging - means as little as 30 per cent of collected glass is recycled into new bottles, a Glass Packaging Forum (GPF) seminar heard in Auckland yesterday. John Webber, general manager of the Glass Packaging Forum, said a July poll showed 80 per cent of Aucklanders wanted their councils to ensure 100 per cent of glass collected is suitable for recycling.
